The managerial merry-go-round at Blackburn Rovers has spun again, with Valerien Ismael departing the club after a tumultuous period! It seems the "mutual consent" phrase is becoming a familiar one at Ewood Park, as the French coach has been shown the exit door after less than a year at the helm.

A statement released at lunchtime declared: "Valerien Ismael has today left his position as Blackburn Rovers’ Head Coach by mutual consent." It further elaborated, "Ismael joined the club in February 2025, it has been mutually agreed that he will step away from his role with immediate effect, along with Assistant Head Coach Dean Whitehead." The club expressed their gratitude, stating, "Blackburn Rovers would like to thank Valérien and Dean for their efforts during their time at the club and wish them both the very best for the future." They concluded by reiterating, "The club will now begin the process of appointing a new Head Coach and will make no further comment until an appointment is confirmed."
But here's where it gets a bit more interesting regarding the staff continuity: With David Lowe having departed in the summer, Damien Johnson is widely expected to step in and manage the team for their upcoming clash against Sheffield Wednesday on Tuesday night. This leaves Ben Benson as the only other remaining first-team staff member.
And this is the part most people miss... It appears February has become a rather unlucky month for Blackburn Rovers' head coaches! This marks the third consecutive February that the club has seen a change in its top managerial position. Remember Jon Dahl Tomasson? He penned his resignation letter in February 2024, following the controversy surrounding the failure to register Duncan McGuire. Now, John Eustace, who left the club almost exactly a year prior to Ismael's departure, has been succeeded by Ismael, continuing this peculiar February trend. In fact, Ismael is the first head coach Rovers have dismissed since Owen Coyle back in 2017, a year before the club's relegation to League One.
