In an exciting matchup, Michael Porter Jr. showcased his scoring prowess by netting 28 points, leading the Brooklyn Nets to a 114-106 victory over the Philadelphia 76ers on Tuesday night. This win marks the Nets' third triumph in their last four games.
Porter was particularly effective from beyond the arc, sinking 5 of his 12 three-point attempts. Egor Demin also made a significant contribution, scoring 20 points, including two crucial three-pointers late in the game. These shots came at a critical moment when the 76ers had reduced a once-commanding 19-point deficit to just nine in the fourth quarter. The Nets demonstrated their shooting skills overall, hitting 17 of 46 attempts from three-point range. Nic Claxton rounded out the offensive efforts with 16 points and 10 rebounds, providing solid support for his teammates.
On the other side of the court, Joel Embiid led the 76ers with 27 points, even after a brief scare when he injured his right knee early in the third quarter. Paul George contributed 19 points; however, the team’s top scorer, Tyrese Maxey, struggled significantly, managing only 13 points on a disappointing 3-of-14 shooting performance. Porter's impressive performance followed a strong outing against the Toronto Raptors just two days prior, where he scored 24 points in a 96-81 victory. He quickly surpassed that total, scoring 25 points in the first half against Philadelphia alone, helping the Nets establish a 63-57 lead at halftime.
During the first half, Embiid was effective, particularly inside the key, converting 7 of 10 attempts for 19 points before halftime. In contrast, Maxey, who dazzled with 38 points in his last game against Dallas, struggled mightily, finishing the first half with only five points due to his 1-of-7 shooting.
The game took a brief pause for concern when Embiid was seen limping into the locker room after colliding with Brooklyn's Terance Mann in the opening minute of the third quarter. Thankfully, he returned shortly after, rejoining his teammates on the court. Despite his return, the Nets continued to increase their lead, ending the third quarter ahead 89-77.
The 76ers attempted a comeback with a 10-0 run that brought them within striking distance at 99-90 midway through the final quarter. However, two timely three-pointers from Demin effectively quashed any hopes of a full comeback for Philadelphia.
Looking ahead, the Nets will be facing the Minnesota Timberwolves this Saturday, while the 76ers are set to take on the Chicago Bulls on Friday as they embark on a challenging five-game road trip.
