Get ready for a major shake-up on Highway 46! A traffic shift is coming, and it's bound to cause some commotion.
On February 9th and 10th, drivers east of Cholame will encounter delays as the highway undergoes a transformation. But here's the catch: these delays are all in the name of progress! As construction crews work their magic, traffic will be rerouted onto brand-new bridges and a slightly adjusted northbound route.
This operation will be a two-day affair, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day, and it's expected to cause delays of around 15 minutes, with potential stops of up to half an hour. And this is where it gets interesting: the California Highway Patrol will be on hand to manage these traffic breaks, ensuring the striping and directional changes are implemented smoothly.
But the changes don't stop there. Once the new alignment is complete, accessing Cholame Valley Road will be different. Say goodbye to direct connections between Highway 46 and Cholame Valley Road or Davis Road. Instead, a section of the old Highway 46 will become a frontage road, providing access to Jack Ranch Café, Davis Road, and Cholame Valley Road. So, a slight detour, but one that ensures a safer and more efficient journey in the long run.
